Research Goal Is to see if there is a gene expression difference in Ts65Dn mice jaw precursors when compared to their euploid littermates.
Description of Your Research I am working on locating candidate genes that lead to facial dsymorphologies in individuals with Down syndrome (DS). In our lab we are using Ts65Dn mice in order to isolate jaw precursor RNA and run it out on a microarray in order to locate triplicated genes that could potentially be disrupting pathways that are causing the DS facial phenotypes.
Examples Of How My Research Is Integrated Into My GK-12 Experience Since I am working on Down syndrome I was able to use pop beads to show how Down syndrome happens. We used these pop beads to show meiosis and mitosis and also the errors that could happen during cell division. We also were able to use pop beads to show DNA replication and translation.
Currently, My GK-12 Classroom Is Investigating Currently we have just finished the genetics portion in which I had full responsibility for and are now working on the Chemistry portion of their curriculum and also helping them to complete their science fair projects. | ![]() |
