Research Goal To successfully synthesis falcarindiol, an anti-funugal and anti-cancer agent, found in carrots with high yields.
Description of Your Research Use a variety of chemistry techniques to synthesis falcarindiol, a natural product found carrots. Techniques used are from text book chemistry and also advance metal catalyst reactions. With production of falcarindiol, we are able to utilize the standards to test on HPLC (High Pressure Liquid Chromatography) where in carrots falcarindiol is being produced.
Examples Of How My Research Is Integrated Into My GK-12 Experience Research experiments are implemented into classroom activities. Showing students techniques on how to be a successful organic research. Also using a simple HPLC type test to observe where falcarindiol is produced within different cell tissues of a carrot.
Currently, My GK-12 Classroom Is Investigating We are investigating chemical properties and reaction mechanisms. Also we are going over gas laws, to be used for further inquiry into chemical reactions. | ![]() |
