How will you continue to integrate an aspect of GK-12 and your partnership with graduate students into your teaching, philosophy, etc.?

Having a 'real-life' scientist in the classroom has been a benefit to my teaching and to my students' learning. My GK-12 experience will remind me to bring in more real-life examples and think about different ways to connect with my students. Seeing a 'real-life' scientist working our kids helps me see how interested they are in science and specific research. I will continue to integrate lessons on acquired traits versus inherited traits that Alexis has developed for a genetics unit.

How has the GK-12 experience changed you, and how has your participation changed the GK-12 project?

My GK-12 experience has helped me integrate more real-life science experiences and examples into my curriculum. One way that we changed the GK-12 experience is that Alexis worked after school with my science enrichment program. We found the experience to be very beneficial because we didn't have the usual restraints of the classroom and we were able to implement more engaging activities and lessons.
